Noémi Kiss
I am a professional singer and voice teacher. I was born and raised in Hungary, where I studied at the Liszt Academy of Music, Budapest, and as a post graduate, I obtained a special diploma in early music performance practice at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama, London, England.
I spent 15 years performing with orchestras and choirs as a soloist in Europe, and I also made a number of recordings of baroque and contemporary music. I came to Victoria, British Columbia in 2008 for what was meant to be a short visit. From there I moved to the tiny rural village of Argenta, British Columbia in 2009. Since then I have been performing more locally, with different musical partners and collaborations, and I continue to teach voice to all ages. I also lead a choir called Cottonwood Singers.
As a performer I always knew that music had tremendous healing power. Listening to music helps us release feelings of sadness and grief, it uplifts us and brings us joy and peace, music therapy is helping thousands of people all the time. As a teacher, I have had the joy and privilege of helping my students feel more happy, creative, grounded and alive through their own music making. Through the years of teaching I became convinced that sound can reach where so many other healing modalities, or even medicine cannot go, so I turned my attention towards sound healing. I discovered Alchemy Crystal Singing Bowls, and have completed training with Nancy Kaasay Watters in Victoria, British Columbia, and also participated at the Sacred Sound of Science Sound Healing Summit in Los Angeles, organized by Jeralyn Glass. I am a certified Biofield Tuning practitioner, a sound healing method created by Eileen McKusick.
I’ve been teaching singing for more than 25 years, always being aware of sound having the potential to heal. I’ve been helping people discover their own voice, supporting them in finding their power, balance and ground. It is my belief that music can help heal the planet, and that through sound we become our better selves, we discover our own innate beauty and the unconditional love that we are made of so we can become healthier, happier, and whole. I am passionate about holding space for people’s healing journeys through sound. Having found Biofield Tuning feels like the last piece in the puzzle, exactly what I needed to deepen my practice, and also, now that you’ve found me, the modality may just be exactly what you need. Let’s explore together!
